Painstation Painstation was founded in 2000 and was originally designated for athletes wanting to perform at a high level in sports. The original slogan was "Athletes Training Athletes" and the idea was that anyone coming to Painstation would be brought through an experience that can help them deal with whatever challenges they will be faced with. Le Bifthèque traces its heritage back more than 70 years to a Montreal butchershop run by Sam Seltzer. Decades of experience culminated in his grandson opening the very first Le Bifthèque restaurant in 1981. The first Le Bifthèque was, and still is, an enormous success, with great value and great beef combining to create a clientele loyalty most restaurants can only dream of. Other restaurants soon followed in Quebec and Ontario as word spread that it is possible to reward one's taste buds without punishing one's wallet. Cafe Union first opened its doors in 1910 in the Bonsecour Market as a small coffee, tea and spice store. The business relocated from Old Montreal to St. Denis Street, then to Ste. Catherine Street (circa 1945). That store remained unchanged until 1986. Today both the roasting plant, opened in 1970, and retail store are located on Jean-Talon Street close to Little Italy.
The business built its name and reputation as the store in which to find the latest in European importations, catering to the waves of immigrants who were looking to find familiar products. In its origins, coffee was only part of the success of Café Union, as patrons were also coming in to get everything from coffee makers and accessories to tea, chocolates, spices and herbs. Amazing stories from that era of famous and infamous customers that left an indelible mark on our history are still shared and shape who we are today….
